Morgan Stanley Expects the Federal Reserve to Keep Interest Rates Unchanged Next Week

Morgan Stanley strategists stated in a report that recent data suggests the Federal Reserve will remain on hold at its July meeting and may keep interest rates unchanged for the remainder of the year. They noted that the Fed is losing patience with inflation above its target, and the inflation trajectory in the coming months will be crucial. They expect inflation to decline as anticipated; otherwise, the Fed may raise rates later this year. Currently, the money market has priced in nearly two rate hikes by the Fed before the end of the year, but a slowdown in inflation could prompt the Fed to maintain rates this year, keeping the federal funds rate in the range of 3.50% to 3.75%.
