BitPay Secures MiCA License in the Netherlands
BitPay has received approval as a Crypto Asset Service Provider (CASP) from the Dutch financial authorities. This allows BitPay to operate under the MiCA framework in European Union (EU) member states. BitPay plans to expand its business in cryptocurrency payments and stablecoin transactions. Jonathan Arlater, BitPay's European head, mentioned that Europe is a crucial region for the future of payments. MiCA has been applying regulations to cryptocurrency service providers since July 1, and securing a license has become a key condition for business expansion. Ripple recently received a CASP license in Luxembourg, further establishing its presence in Europe. The industry views this trend as a 'consolidation phase' for the European cryptocurrency market, with companies that successfully respond to regulations expected to survive in the market. BitPay's MiCA approval case demonstrates that 'regulatory compliance' is becoming a growth strategy in Europe.
